Hollywood starlet Angelina Jolie calls for direct support for Ukrainian charities

"My friend (British photographer and journalist) Giles Duley is in Ukraine and sent me these images of Ukrainian activists and organizations. National social organisations in Ukraine have only received 0.003% of funds raised internationally. This model has to change to more direct support for local organizations. This strengthens civil society, gives more self-determination to local communities, and ensures all funds from donations go to support the local economy. Local organizations with teams from the communities they represent offer the most effective, dignified and sustainable way to support communities dealing with trauma and recovering from war, displacement, and climate change," her message reads.

She listed several Ukrainian organisations which need help, including March For Women’s Rights. It's a feminist initiative headed by Olena Shevchenko which helps women throughout Ukraine.

She also mentioned the Help Ukraine charity that uses ambulances to evacuate people from the frontline and newly liberated areas.

She also spotlighted GAR, which is an organisation that supports disabled people. They supply high performance wheelchairs and training for people with spinal cord injuries.

Jolie visited Ukraine in spring 2022, when she was impressed with the resilience and bravery of Ukrainians.
