Czechia can purchase 200,000 additional artillery shells for Ukraine — PM Fiala

According to Fiala, Prague has already signed binding contracts to procure 300,000 shells to address Kyiv’s needs. Funding for the initiative was provided by 18 partners and allies, including Canada, France, Germany, and Belgium.

“I consider this a great success; It's another proof that the Czech Republic is a fully active player in European security policy," Fiala said.

On March 11, German newspaper Bild reported that Czechia had purchased 800,000 artillery shells from third countries, which could be delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks.

President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel first spoke about the possibility of acquiring 800,000 shells for Ukraine on February 17. He mentioned finding half a million units of 155millimeter caliber and 300,000 of 122millimeter caliber. Pavel did not name the countries willing to sell the munitions.

A Ukrainian security official told NV that plans are in place to purchase more shells from South Korea and South Africa. The contract is estimated to cost around $2 billion.
